<h4>Who Are You Actually Designing For?</h4>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-1709" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/1-300x169.png" alt="" width="600" height="338" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/1-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/1-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/1-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/1-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/1-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/1-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/1-705x397.png 705w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>Let me tell you about my bed.<br />
My friends are a little tired of hearing about it. But I can’t help myself, so now you get to hear about it too.<br />
For years I had been specifying adjustable beds for clients — seen firsthand what they do for a bedroom, for sleep, for the quality of someone’s daily life. And for years I had been reading in bed propped up on an elaborate mountain of pillows, quietly failing to do the thing designers sometimes forget to do.<br />
Design for myself.<br />
When I brought it up to my husband, the response was… not enthusiastic. An adjustable bed? Absolutely not. That’s a hospital bed. We’re not old. We don’t need that. The man had feelings about this.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-1711" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/3-300x169.png" alt="" width="500" height="281" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/3-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/3-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/3-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/3-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/3-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/3-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/3-705x397.png 705w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" /></p>
<p>I made my case. The reading. The comfort. The fact that he snores and elevating his head would help with that — a point I may have mentioned more than once. But honestly? My husband knows me well. He knows that comfort isn’t just something I value — it is, in his words, my entire thing. He calls me the Queen of Comfort. And somewhere in that argument he realized he wasn’t going to win this one, so he did the smart thing and folded gracefully.<br />
That adjustable bed is now, without question, the most beloved piece of furniture in our home. We call it the Robot Bed. The man who was absolutely not getting a hospital bed now refers to it with genuine affection. It changed the way we sleep, the way we unwind, the way we end every single day.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-1712" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/4-300x169.png" alt="" width="600" height="338" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/4-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/4-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/4-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/4-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/4-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/4-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/4-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>And it got me thinking about how often we resist the things that would actually make our homes work better — and why.<br />
The Rooms We Design for Everyone but Ourselves<br />
So much of what we build into a home, we build for someone who isn’t there most of the time.<br />
The formal living room that sits perfectly arranged and completely unused because it’s “for guests.” The dining room built to seat twelve because of one big holiday a year. The guest bedroom that takes up valuable square footage for the twice-annual visitor while the people who live in the house have nowhere to put anything.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-1710" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2-1030x579.png" alt="" width="600" height="338" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>I had a client — a lovely family of six — who were convinced they needed their dining room to seat at least ten to twelve people, with room for extra tables at the holidays. Thanksgiving. Christmas. The big occasions.<br />
But you don’t have to design your everyday around your exceptions. So instead of building a room for the two days it needed to stretch, we solved for those two days a different way. We went with a gorgeous extendable table and a set of chic folding chairs stored in the garage for when the crowd shows up.<br />
Everyone was fed at Thanksgiving. And the room finally felt like theirs.<br />
<em>That’s the math I’m interested in.</em></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-1713" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/5-300x169.png" alt="" width="600" height="338" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/5-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/5-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/5-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/5-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/5-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/5-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/5-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<h3>Comfort Is Not a Luxury. It’s the Point.</h3>
<p>There’s a persistent idea that designing for comfort — your comfort, your family’s comfort, the actual humans living in the house — is somehow indulgent. That the “right” way to design is for appearances, for occasions, for the version of your life that looks best from the outside.<br />
I’d like to respectfully challenge that.<br />
Your home is where you decompress after a hard day. Where your kids do homework and your family eats dinner and you read before bed and you wake up in the morning and do it all again. It is the backdrop to your entire life. It should feel good to be there — not just look good for the people passing through.<br />
Comfort is not the opposite of beautiful design. In fact, a room that looks stunning but feels uncomfortable is, in my professional opinion, a room that isn’t finished.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-1714" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/6-300x169.png" alt="" width="600" height="338" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/6-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/6-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/6-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/6-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/6-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/6-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/6-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<h3>What Comfort Actually Means</h3>
<p>Comfort in design isn’t just about a soft sofa — though a genuinely good sofa will absolutely change your life and I will die on that hill.<br />
It’s about a room that supports what you actually do in it. Lighting that works for the way you use the space — not just overhead fixtures that flatten everything at dinner. Seating arrangements that invite conversation rather than performing it. A bedroom that helps you sleep, rest, and recharge rather than one that photographs beautifully but leaves you stacking pillows at ten o’clock at night.<br />
It’s asking: what does this room need to do for the people inside it? And then designing backward from that answer.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-1715" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/7-300x169.png" alt="" width="600" height="338" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/7-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/7-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/7-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/7-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/7-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/7-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/7-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<h3>Design the Life You’re Actually Living</h3>
<p>Here’s what I want you to take away from this: you have permission to design for yourself.<br />
Not for the guests who visit twice a year. Not for the holidays. Not for the version of your life that exists only in your imagination or on someone’s Pinterest board.<br />
For the Tuesday night in March when you just need the room to feel good. For the Sunday morning that belongs entirely to you. For the everyday moments that make up the vast majority of your actual life.<br />
My husband resisted the Robot Bed because it didn’t fit the idea of what a bed was supposed to look like. What we got instead was the piece of furniture we love most in our home — the one we talk about, the one that genuinely changed the quality of our nights.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-1716" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/8-300x169.png" alt="" width="600" height="338" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/8-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/8-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/8-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/8-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/8-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/8-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/8-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>That’s what happens when you stop designing for the idea of your life and start designing for the reality of it.<br />
Let’s Get Real is an ongoing series about designing homes for the way people actually live — honest, practical, and occasionally a little spicy.</p>

<h3>The Summer Edition Is Here</h3>
<p>Is it a little late? It is. We are calling it &#8220;fashionably.&#8221; The Summer Edition was supposed to land back when June still felt like a fresh idea, and yet here we are in July, and I regret nothing.<br />
Because here&#8217;s the thing about Southern California: our summer doesn&#8217;t pack up and leave on schedule. It stretches, unbothered, all the way into September. That warm, generous light that makes you want to throw the windows open, put something cold in a nice glass, and actually enjoy the home you&#8217;ve been living in all year? We&#8217;ve got months of it left.<br />
So consider this issue right on time.<br />
The sixth volume of Authentik Style our Summer Edition is officially here, and you can download the whole mini-mag and keep it. Real projects, real color, and real ways to make your home feel like summer without turning it into a beach cottage. (More on that in a second.)<br />
Here&#8217;s a taste of what&#8217;s inside.</p>

<h3>A Before &amp; After You&#8217;ll Want to Sit With</h3>
<p>This issue, we&#8217;re pulling back the curtain on our Ohana Properties project and I mean the full before-and-after. The kind where you scroll back up to the &#8220;before&#8221; just to confirm you&#8217;re really looking at the same room.<br />
I won&#8217;t spoil it here. But I&#8217;ll say this: it was a labor of love, and the transformation is exactly the kind of thing that reminds me why I do this work. You&#8217;ll want to see it.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-1687 aligncenter" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-recipe-1030x579.png" alt="" width="1030" height="579" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-recipe-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-recipe-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-recipe-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-recipe-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-recipe-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-recipe-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-recipe-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<h3>Summer Recipes (Yes, From a Designer)</h3>
<p>Stay with me. Because the way I see it, a beautifully designed home and a table you actually want to gather around are the same conversation. What&#8217;s the point of the perfect room if no one&#8217;s living in it?</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-1688 aligncenter" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-color-1030x579.png" alt="" width="1030" height="579" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-color-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-color-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-color-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-color-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-color-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-color-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-color-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<h3>Summer Color : But Make It Eclectic</h3>
<p>Here&#8217;s where I get a little opinionated. (You knew I would.)<br />
When people hear &#8220;summer palette,&#8221; they go straight to coastal. Blues, whites, a little rope detail, maybe a seashell if things get out of hand. And listen, coastal is lovely. It is just not the only way to do summer.<br />
This issue makes the case for eclectic summer: warm, collected, unexpected color that feels alive rather than themed. Think less beach house, more a home that&#8217;s traveled, gathered, and knows exactly who it is. Inside, I&#8217;m sharing the specific palettes I&#8217;m reaching for this season and why they work.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-1689 aligncenter" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-hobby-havens--1030x579.png" alt="" width="1030" height="579" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-hobby-havens--1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-hobby-havens--300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-hobby-havens--768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-hobby-havens--1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-hobby-havens--2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-hobby-havens--1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/AH-Summer-blog-hobby-havens--705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<h3>Hobby Havens</h3>
<p>This might be my favorite feature in the whole issue.<br />
Somewhere along the way, we all decided homes should be built around a sofa, a TV, and not much else. But the happiest homes I design are the ones with space carved out for the things people genuinely love to do the reading, the painting, the puttering, the projects.<br />
We&#8217;re calling these spaces Hobby Havens, and the issue gets into how to create one of your own , whatever your square footage.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m going to be honest with you about something right out of the gate.<br />
I originally wrote a very different version of this piece. It had a lovely title. It had structure and flow and genuinely useful tips. It was warm and aspirational and it was going to leave you feeling inspired to craft your own beautiful opening and closing rituals for the home.<br />
It was also, if I&#8217;m being real with you, a little bit of a performance.<br />
So, I scrapped it. And I&#8217;m writing this instead.<br />
I should tell you something before we get into this.<br />
I am an interior designer. I think deeply about how spaces function, how environments support the people living in them, how the smallest details of a home can either work for you or quietly against you. I have built a whole body of work around the idea of intentional living.<br />
And I was recently diagnosed with ADHD.<br />
I say recently, though honestly it explains a lifetime of things. The hyperfocus and the scattered days. The systems I build with great care and the ones I abandon by Wednesday. The way I can design a perfect environment for someone else and then walk into my own home on a hard day and feel completely untethered.<br />
What I&#8217;ve learned ( and am still learning ) is that the rituals I&#8217;ve built for myself aren&#8217;t a luxury. They&#8217;re infrastructure. And the hardest part isn&#8217;t building them. It&#8217;s being okay when I can&#8217;t execute them perfectly.</p>
<h3>The Opening</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-1661" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-coffee-1030x579.png" alt="" width="600" height="338" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-coffee-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-coffee-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-coffee-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-coffee-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-coffee-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-coffee-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-coffee-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>My morning ritual is not elaborate. On a good day it has shape and intention and I move through it feeling like myself. On a hard day it barely exists.<br />
But there are two things that happen no matter what.<br />
Black coffee. Quiet. Twenty minutes, minimum, before the day asks anything of me.<br />
That&#8217;s it. That&#8217;s the anchor. Everything else , the journaling, the walk, the slow and considered start I genuinely aspire to …those are beautiful when they happen and I&#8217;ve stopped punishing myself when they don&#8217;t. But the coffee and the quiet are non-negotiable. They are the signal to my brain that the day is beginning on my terms, even when nothing else cooperates.<br />
I used to think a ritual had to be complete to count. I&#8217;ve since learned that an imperfect ritual you actually do is worth infinitely more than a perfect one you can&#8217;t sustain.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-1662" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-journal-1030x579.png" alt="" width="600" height="338" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-journal-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-journal-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-journal-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-journal-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-journal-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-journal-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/morning-journal-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<h3>The Closing</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-1664" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-sounds-1030x579.png" alt="" width="600" height="338" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-sounds-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-sounds-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-sounds-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-sounds-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-sounds-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-sounds-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-sounds-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>The closing is where I&#8217;ve surprised myself most.<br />
I need sound to end my day. Not background noise: intentional sound. I discovered solfeggio frequencies a few years ago and I cannot recommend them enough. If you haven&#8217;t explored them, start. The Calm app is another one I return to constantly, there is something about having a guided, gentle off-ramp for the brain that I didn&#8217;t know I needed until I tried it.<br />
My family thinks this is hilarious, for the record. The weird music, as they call it. I have fully leaned into sleep headphones at this point — the flat, comfortable kind you can actually sleep in, which means I can do this anywhere. Hotel rooms, guest bedrooms, a red eye flight. My closing ritual travels with me now, and that has changed everything.<br />
Because here&#8217;s what I know about my brain: it does not naturally power down. Left to its own devices it will keep going, keep processing, keep finding one more thing to turn over. The sound is a signal. We&#8217;re done. You can rest now. And remarkably, after enough repetition, it works.</p>
<h3>On Imperfection</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-1663" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-brain-1030x579.png" alt="" width="600" height="338" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-brain-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-brain-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-brain-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-brain-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-brain-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-brain-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/night-brain-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>I want to be honest with you about something, because I think it matters.<br />
There are mornings I don&#8217;t get the quiet. There are nights the headphones stay on the nightstand. There are weeks where the whole architecture of intention I&#8217;ve built feels like it belongs to a more functional version of me and I&#8217;m just doing my best in the meantime.<br />
And I&#8217;ve had to learn …slowly, imperfectly, with a fair amount of self-criticism along the way that this is okay. That the ritual isn&#8217;t ruined because I missed it. That the anchor holds even when I can&#8217;t access the whole thing. That knowing what supports you and being able to execute it perfectly every day are two very different things, and only one of them is actually required.<br />
I design homes that support the people living in them. I am also a person living in a home, doing that work in real time, with a brain that requires a little more scaffolding than I once let myself admit.<br />
The opening and closing of my day are the scaffolding. Some days they&#8217;re beautiful. Some days they&#8217;re just coffee and the weird music.<br />
Both count.</p>

<h3>LET&#8217;S GET REAL<br />
We Need to Talk About the Cloud Sofa.</h3>
<p>You know what happened.<br />
You walked into the Restoration Hardware showroom. Maybe you were just browsing. Maybe you had a specific mission. Either way, at some point you rounded a corner, saw it, and sat down.<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1619" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom-2-1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom-2-1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom-2-300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom-2-768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom-2-1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom-2-1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom-2-705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom-2.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /><br />
And the Cloud Sofa got you.<br />
It was like sinking into a very expensive, very beautiful cloud. The world went quiet. You may have briefly considered just living there. You thought — this. This is my sofa. This is who I am now.<br />
I understand. I really do.<br />
And then you got it home.</p>
<h3>The Calls I Started Getting</h3>
<p>When the Cloud Sofa had its moment (and it had a very big moment ) my phone started ringing with a very specific kind of call.<br />
It always started the same way.<br />
&#8220;Hi, we just purchased a new sofa and we love it, but… nothing else is working anymore. We think we need help with the living room.&#8221;<br />
I&#8217;d get there and do a quick assessment. The sofa was enormous .. a magnificent, oversized, pillow-laden island sitting in the middle of a room that had not been designed for it. The rug looked like a bath mat next to it. The side tables looked like they belonged in a dollhouse. The armchairs, if there were any left in the room at all, were pushed into corners like they were in timeout.<br />
And the homeowners ( bless them ) could not quite bring themselves to say the thing they were actually feeling.<br />
Because the thing they were actually feeling was buyer&#8217;s remorse. They had fallen for the hype, the showroom, the cloud moment — and now they were living with the consequences. But admitting that felt like defeat. So instead the sofa was fine, it was great actually, they loved it … it was just the room that wasn&#8217;t working.<br />
Sure. The room.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1623" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Living-room-fail--1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Living-room-fail--1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Living-room-fail--300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Living-room-fail--768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Living-room-fail--1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Living-room-fail--1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Living-room-fail--705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Living-room-fail-.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<h3>Let&#8217;s Talk About Living With It</h3>
<p>Because here&#8217;s what the showroom experience does not prepare you for.<br />
The size. Unless you are a professional basketball player or your living room is the square footage of a small airport, this sofa is going to dominate your space in a way you did not fully anticipate. It doesn&#8217;t just sit in a room. It moves in, unpacks, and takes over.<br />
The pillows. I need everyone to really sit with this one. How many pillows are on this sofa? Where are they going when you want to actually sit down? Who is responsible for fluffing them? This is not a rhetorical question. This is a daily commitment and you need to know what you&#8217;re signing up for.<br />
The getting up situation. You know the scene in The Princess Bride where Westley pulls Buttercup out of the Fire Swamp quicksand? That is getting off this sofa. In the showroom you sank in gracefully and floated back up because you were performing for no one and adrenaline was involved. At home, on a Tuesday night, after dinner, when you need to go do something — it is a whole event. For anyone over forty, I say this with love: your back will have thoughts.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1621" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/pit-of-despair-1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/pit-of-despair-1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/pit-of-despair-300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/pit-of-despair-768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/pit-of-despair-1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/pit-of-despair-1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/pit-of-despair-705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/pit-of-despair.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<p>The maintenance. This is not a throw-a-blanket-over-it sofa. This is a sofa that requires attention, care, and a level of commitment that not every household is realistically prepared to give.<br />
And then there was the client who had already purchased hers before we started working together. It was done, it was in the room, and honestly .. it fit. Not perfectly, but it worked well enough, and she loved it, and clients have agency. My job isn&#8217;t to talk someone out of something they&#8217;ve already fallen for. It&#8217;s to make the best possible room around the choices that are on the table.<br />
So we worked with it. We did the best we could. And somewhere between six months and a year later she called, voice perfectly pleasant, to let me know she was ready for something new.<br />
Totally her call.<br />
I was happy to help.</p>
<h3>But …. It Was Perfect for One Client</h3>
<p>I want to be fair to the sofa, because this is not actually a takedown.<br />
I had a client who wanted the Cloud Sofa and I said yes immediately. She was tall , and that matters more than people realize, because this sofa was genuinely designed for a longer body. She had the space for it. She understood exactly what she was choosing , the scale, the pillows, the upkeep. We selected a beautiful performance fabric that could handle real life. And then we did something that made all the difference.<br />
We built the entire room around it.<br />
The rug was scaled to match. The tables were proportioned to live beside it. The other seating was chosen to complement rather than compete. The room knew what it was and it owned it completely.<br />
It was spectacular. Still is.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1616" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-2-1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-2-1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-2-300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-2-768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-2-1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-2-1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-2-705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-2.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<h3>The Sofa Isn&#8217;t the Villain. Impulse Is</h3>
<p>Here&#8217;s the thing I want you to take away from this, and it goes well beyond one very large, very beloved, very divisive sofa.<br />
There is no such thing as a bad piece of furniture. There are just pieces that are wrong for a particular space, a particular life, a particular person and pieces that are chosen without anyone stopping to ask those questions first.<br />
The showroom is designed to make you fall in love. The lighting is perfect, the styling is intentional, and everything around the piece has been chosen to make it look its absolute best. Your living room is not a showroom. It has different proportions, different light, different furniture, different people living in it every day.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1618" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom--1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom--1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom--300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom--768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom--1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom--1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom--705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/cloud-sofa-showroom-.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<p>A designer&#8217;s job is to be the person in the room who isn&#8217;t caught up in the cloud moment. Who is measuring, and thinking about scale, and asking what happens to the rug and the chairs and the traffic flow when this thing arrives. Who loves beautiful things and also knows that beautiful things have to actually work in your actual home.<br />
So the next time you find yourself sinking into something in a showroom thinking …..yes, this, this is the one !<br />
Take a breath. Take a photo. Take the dimensions.<br />
And maybe make a call before you make a decision.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s Get Real is an ongoing series about designing homes for the way people actually live, honest, practical, and occasionally a little spicy.</p>

The Language of Flowers — And What It Can Teach Us About Home</h3>
<p>Spring is here, and I can feel it on my morning walks.<br />
The other day I spotted the first blooms pushing up through the leaves in my neighborhood and then I was stopped in my tracks …. because there was a rose I recognized immediately and suddenly I wasn’t on my street anymore. I was ten years old with grass stains on my jeans, running around a garden and leaning in to take in the most extraordinary scent.<br />
We called them lemonade roses. To our little untrained noses, they smelled like pink lemonade and roses all at once…sweet and alive and completely intoxicating. To me, even now, that scent smells like home. Like childhood.<br />
I still have to lean down and take a whiff every single time. The Double Delight rose.<br />
That little nostalgic moment got me thinking on something I find genuinely fascinating, the idea that flowers have always carried meaning. Not just beauty. Meaning. And that bringing them into our homes with a little intention can completely change how a space feels.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1595" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight.jpg" alt="" width="425" height="531" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight.jpg 819w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight-240x300.jpg 240w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight-768x960.jpg 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight-564x705.jpg 564w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1593" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight-2-677x1030.jpg" alt="" width="349" height="531" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight-2-677x1030.jpg 677w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight-2-197x300.jpg 197w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight-2-464x705.jpg 464w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight-2.jpg 736w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 349px) 100vw, 349px" /></p>
<h3>Flowers Have Always Been a Language</h3>
<p>The Victorians had a whole system for this called floriography: the art of sending messages through flowers. Every bloom carried a specific meaning. A bouquet wasn’t just beautiful. It was a conversation. Feelings too delicate or daring to say out loud could be arranged into a posy and handed across a room.<br />
The Victorians weren’t alone in this, cultures from ancient Persia to Japan to Greece have been assigning meaning to flowers for thousands of years. But honestly the Victorian version is so intriguing because it was practically a secret code, and hello .. the height of romance!<br />
Now if you&#8217;ve made it this far you&#8217;re probably thinking ….okay Andrea, lovely history lesson, but what does this have to do with my home?&#8221;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1599" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/victorian-lady-683x1030.jpg" alt="" width="425" height="641" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/victorian-lady-683x1030.jpg 683w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/victorian-lady-199x300.jpg 199w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/victorian-lady-768x1159.jpg 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/victorian-lady-1018x1536.jpg 1018w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/victorian-lady-994x1500.jpg 994w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/victorian-lady-467x705.jpg 467w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/victorian-lady.jpg 1193w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1598" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/language-of-flowers-685x1030.jpg" alt="" width="425" height="639" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/language-of-flowers-685x1030.jpg 685w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/language-of-flowers-199x300.jpg 199w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/language-of-flowers-469x705.jpg 469w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/language-of-flowers.jpg 736w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>I promise I’m getting to that! So, my moment with the roses , with the thinking about the language of flowers .. all brought me to thinking “what if we brought a little of that intention back into our spaces?” Not in a serious or ceremonial way (or a secret code way ) just pausing before you grab flowers at the market and asking what you actually want to bring into your space right now….</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1597" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/flowers-2-1030x773.jpg" alt="" width="425" height="319" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/flowers-2-1030x773.jpg 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/flowers-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/flowers-2-768x576.jpg 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/flowers-2-705x529.jpg 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/flowers-2.jpg 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<h3>A Few of My Favorites :And What They Mean</h3>
<p>My instinct with flowers is always the same. I look for color first , then scent . The meaning comes after. But knowing what a flower carries with it adds a layer that I find genuinely delightful! *Pun Intended</p>
<h3>Double Delight Rose — Intense love, passion, unity, healing</h3>
<p>Introduced in 1977 and named by popular vote because people couldn’t agree on whether the beauty or the scent was more extraordinary — so they called it both. Creamy white edged deep crimson, with one of the most extraordinary fragrances in the rose world. Also associated with releasing deep generational patterns. My forever favorite.</p>
<h3>Peonies — Prosperity, good fortune, happy home</h3>
<p>The Victorians called them a symbol of a happy marriage and good fortune. The Chinese called them the king of flowers and grew them in imperial gardens for centuries. Either way, a bowl of fresh peonies on a dining table is one of the happiest things you can put in a room. Full stop.</p>
<h3>White Tulips — New beginnings, forgiveness, worthiness of love</h3>
<p>Simple, fresh, and quietly hopeful. A single bunch of white tulips in a clear vase is one of my favorite things &#8211; clean lines, no fuss, and a feeling of possibility that is perfect for spring. Fun fact: at the height of Tulip Mania in 17th century Holland, a single rare bulb sold for the price of a house.</p>
<h3>Lavender — Calm, devotion, serenity</h3>
<p>I love lavender everything! the scent, the color, the way a bundle of it looks tied with twine on a nightstand. The Romans bathed in it, tucked it into their linens, and used it to calm soldiers before battle. In a room it is less decoration and more intention. There is a reason it has been used in spaces meant for rest for literally thousands of years.</p>
<h3>Ranunculus — Charm, radiance, pure delight</h3>
<p>If you have ever walked into a room with a full arrangement of ranunculus in bloom and felt your mood lift immediately ..that is not an accident. They are practically engineered to make people happy. Layered, ruffled, available in the most beautiful range of colors. I dare you to be in a bad mood near ranunculus.</p>
<h3>California Poppy — Rest, recovery, imagination</h3>
<p>Our state flower and another of my favorites. There is something about a poppy: that tissue-paper delicacy, that almost shocking color , that feels both wildly free and quietly grounding at the same time. Simple in the best possible way. A handful of poppies in a small vase is a whole mood.</p>
<h3>Daisy — Innocence, joy, new beginnings</h3>
<p>Underrated. Endlessly cheerful. The Victorians associated daisies with innocence and loyal love but honestly, I just think they make every room feel cheerful in the very best way. Don’t sleep on the simple ones.</p>
<p>An Honorable Dis-mention: The artificially dyed carnation. You know the one. Neon purple. Aggressively blue. A color that exists nowhere in nature and for good reason. Carnations are beautiful and they symbolize love and fascination plus they last forever in a vase. But if someone has gone and dyed one a color that requires a warning label, we are going to have to agree to disagree.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1592" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/carnation.jpg" alt="" width="425" height="425" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/carnation.jpg 500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/carnation-300x300.jpg 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/carnation-80x80.jpg 80w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/carnation-36x36.jpg 36w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/carnation-180x180.jpg 180w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>

<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1596" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/floriography.jpg" alt="" width="318" height="425" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/floriography.jpg 318w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/floriography-224x300.jpg 224w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px" /></p>
<h3>Bringing Intention Into Your Home</h3>
<p>I’m not suggesting you need a Victorian flower dictionary to go to the farmers market. But I do love the idea of pausing for a moment and asking “what do I want to feel in my home right now? What does this space need?”<br />
Designer Tip : One of my favorite things to do is buy a dozen roses (or 2 dozen) and distribute them around the house in small groupings, two or three stems in a simple vase on the coffee table, one in the bathroom, a few on the kitchen counter, a couple on the dining table. Little moments of something living and beautiful in every room. It costs the same as one large arrangement and does so much more for how the whole home feels.<br />
Place flowers where you begin and end your day. Let scent lead, we are so visual in how we design and scent is one of the most underused elements in a home. A fragrant flower does something that no paint color or fabric can.<br />
And if a flower stops you in your tracks… if you find yourself reaching for it before you’ve even thought about it, trust that. It’s usually carrying something you need.</p>
<p>I still haven’t managed to grow the lemonade roses the way they grew in that garden. Some things belong to a particular place and a particular pair of hands.<br />
But I understand now that what I keep reaching for isn’t just the flower. It’s what it carries. The warmth. The memory.<br />
That is what the language of flowers has always been about. Not just beauty but meaning brought into a space with intention.<br />
And that, to me, is where design begins.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1594" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight-3.jpg" alt="" width="425" height="319" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight-3.jpg 728w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/double-delight-3-705x529.jpg 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>Designing From Within is an ongoing series exploring the sensory, intuitive, and emotional layers of design — the things that make a home feel like yours.</p>

What Designers Really Notice When They Walk Into Your Home</h3>
<p>One of the questions I get asked all the time is:<br />
<em>“When you walk into someone’s home, what do you notice first?”</em><br />
And usually right after that comes the second question:<br />
<em>“Are you judging everyone?”</em><br />
It’s a fair question—and one that tends to come up at parties once people find out what I do for a living.<br />
The truth is, designers aren’t walking into a room mentally critiquing every pillow or silently rearranging someone’s furniture in quite the way people imagine.<br />
What we’re actually noticing first has very little to do with style.<br />
We’re noticing the bones of the space, the invisible structure that shapes how a room feels.<br />
Before we ever register a sofa style or a paint color, we’re reading the room in a much more intuitive way.</p>
<h3>Light</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1580" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/light-1030x579.png" alt="" width="425" height="239" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/light-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/light-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/light-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/light-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/light-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/light-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/light-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>The first thing I usually notice when I walk into a room is the light.<br />
Where does it come from? How does it move through the space? Is it soft and natural, or harsh and directional?<br />
Light sets the emotional tone of a room before anything else has a chance to speak.<br />
A beautifully designed space with poor lighting will always feel a little off, while even a simple room with beautiful natural light can feel inviting and calm. Designers pay close attention to light because it shapes everything—from how colors appear to how comfortable a room feels throughout the day.</p>
<h3>Flow</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1578" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/flow-1030x579.png" alt="" width="425" height="239" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/flow-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/flow-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/flow-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/flow-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/flow-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/flow-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/flow-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>Next, I notice how the room moves.<br />
Every space has a natural flow to it. When the layout supports that flow, the room feels effortless to move through. When it doesn’t, you feel it immediately—even if you can’t quite explain why.<br />
Furniture that blocks pathways, seating that doesn’t invite conversation, or rooms that feel disconnected from each other can subtly interrupt the way we experience a space.<br />
Good design supports the natural movement of daily life.</p>
<h3>Balance</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1577" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/balance-1030x579.png" alt="" width="425" height="239" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/balance-1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/balance-300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/balance-768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/balance-1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/balance-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/balance-1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/balance-705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>Another thing designers instinctively notice is balance.<br />
This isn’t about everything being perfectly symmetrical. It’s about how visual weight is distributed throughout a room. If all the furniture is clustered on one side, or if one wall carries too much visual attention, the room can feel slightly uneasy without anyone realizing why.<br />
When balance is right, a space feels calm and grounded.</p>
<h3>Proportion</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1582" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/small-rug--1030x579.png" alt="" width="425" height="239" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/small-rug--1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/small-rug--300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/small-rug--768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/small-rug--1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/small-rug--2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/small-rug--1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/small-rug--705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>Proportion is one of the quiet details that makes a room feel finished…or unfinished.<br />
Designers often notice things like rugs that are just a little too small, artwork hung higher than it should be, or furniture that overwhelms the room or feels undersized. These aren’t mistakes people make intentionally. They’re simply details that take time and experience to see clearly.<br />
And once you start noticing proportion, it’s hard to unsee it.</p>
<h3>The Energy of the Room</h3>
<p>Finally—and perhaps most interestingly—designers notice the energy of a space.<br />
Some rooms feel welcoming and relaxed the moment you walk in. Others feel slightly tense, cluttered, or unfinished. Often that feeling is hard to pin on any single thing. It might be a sofa angled slightly away from the rest of the seating, or a TV mounted where there’s no natural place to land. Small misalignments that, on their own, wouldn’t matter, but together leave the room feeling like it hasn’t quite found its footing.<br />
When design is working well, the room feels effortless. You don’t think about it. You just feel at ease.</p>
<h3>So… Are Designers Judging Your Home?</h3>
<h3>The honest answer? Sometimes, yes.</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1579" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/judging-you--1030x579.png" alt="" width="425" height="239" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/judging-you--1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/judging-you--300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/judging-you--768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/judging-you--1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/judging-you--2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/judging-you--1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/judging-you--705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>But probably not in the way you think.<br />
Most of the time we’re not judging someone’s style choices or whether we personally would have picked that sofa or paint color. We’re usually noticing things like… why is the sofa blocking the doorway? Why is the rug floating in the middle of the room like an island?<br />
Years ago, I was at a cocktail party at someone’s home and the host asked my opinion about the furniture layout in her living room. After a couple of glasses of champagne—because that’s usually when these conversations happen,I grabbed a napkin and sketched out a different arrangement that I thought would improve the flow.<br />
The host did not take this well.<br />
She seemed genuinely offended, and I quickly realized I had stepped into territory I probably should have avoided at a cocktail party. I apologized and said, “Oh goodness, I’m so sorry,I thought you were asking my opinion.”<br />
(To be fair, that is something I usually charge for.)<br />
Fast forward to the next party at that same house.<br />
The furniture had been completely rearranged… exactly the way I had drawn it on the napkin. And I overheard the host proudly telling another guest how she had come up with this terrific new layout and how much better the room flowed now that everyone could gather and move through the space so easily.<br />
She never once mentioned the napkin.<br />
And honestly? It made me laugh.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1581" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/napkin-sketch--1030x579.png" alt="" width="425" height="239" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/napkin-sketch--1030x579.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/napkin-sketch--300x169.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/napkin-sketch--768x432.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/napkin-sketch--1536x864.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/napkin-sketch--2048x1152.png 2048w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/napkin-sketch--1500x844.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/napkin-sketch--705x397.png 705w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>I didn’t need the credit. But the story has always stayed with me, not because of the napkin, but because of what it illustrates.<br />
The furniture was the same. The room was the same. Nothing had been replaced or renovated or reimagined from scratch. The only thing that changed was how someone with a trained eye looked at it.<br />
That’s what designers are really doing when we walk into a space. We’re not cataloguing your taste or quietly redecorating in our heads. We’re reading the room: the light, the flow, the balance, the proportion, the energy and seeing the version of it that it’s trying to become.<br />
Most people can feel when a room isn’t quite working. A trained eye can tell you exactly why and exactly what to do about it.</p>
<h5>Reading the Room is an ongoing series of professional observations and design insights — the things a trained eye notices that change everything.</h5>

Your Home Has an Ecosystem. Is Yours in Balance?</h3>
<p>When I begin working with a new client, one of the first things I try to understand isn&#8217;t their sofa style or their favorite paint color.<br />
It&#8217;s how they live.<br />
For years, the most important question I asked was: &#8220;How do you want your home to feel?&#8221; And it&#8217;s still a powerful question. But over time I&#8217;ve come to believe there&#8217;s an even more important one.<br />
<em>How do you want your home to support your life?</em></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1568" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Busy-Home--240x300.png" alt="" width="425" height="531" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Busy-Home--240x300.png 240w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Busy-Home--824x1030.png 824w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Busy-Home--768x960.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Busy-Home--564x705.png 564w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Busy-Home-.png 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>Because every home has an ecosystem: a delicate balance of the people who live there, the routines they follow, the things they love, and the way they move through their space. A beautiful room may catch your eye, but a home that truly works supports the life happening inside it.<br />
And that&#8217;s where design becomes something much deeper than decorating.</p>
<h3>Every Home Has Its Own Rhythm</h3>
<p>Some homes revolve around lively dinners and gatherings. Others are built around quiet mornings with coffee and a book. Some are full of movement and children and noise, while others are places of restoration after long days.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1572" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/reading--240x300.png" alt="" width="425" height="531" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/reading--240x300.png 240w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/reading--824x1030.png 824w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/reading--768x960.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/reading--564x705.png 564w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/reading-.png 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>None of these rhythms are right or wrong. They&#8217;re simply different ecosystems.<br />
When a home&#8217;s design aligns with the way people actually live, everything feels easier. Spaces flow naturally. Rooms feel inviting rather than forced. The home becomes something that supports daily life instead of quietly working against it.<br />
When it doesn&#8217;t align? You feel that too ….even if you can&#8217;t quite name why.</p>
<h3>Life Changes. Homes Need to Change Too.</h3>
<p>One of the quieter truths I&#8217;ve observed over the years is that life is rarely static. Families grow and shift. Children leave and sometimes return. Partners arrive, routines evolve, and what worked beautifully in a home a decade ago may no longer fit the life being lived there now.<br />
That doesn&#8217;t mean the home has failed. It means the ecosystem has shifted, and the design needs to shift with it.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1570" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/dancing-couple--240x300.png" alt="" width="425" height="531" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/dancing-couple--240x300.png 240w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/dancing-couple--824x1030.png 824w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/dancing-couple--768x960.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/dancing-couple--564x705.png 564w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/dancing-couple-.png 945w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>This is something I talk about with nearly every client, and it&#8217;s something I&#8217;ve had to reckon with in my own home as well.</p>
<h3>Even Designers Live in Ecosystems</h3>
<p>This past year brought some of the most wonderful changes of my life. I married the love of my life, became a stepmom to the most wonderful nine-year-old, and our sweet old-man dog Freddy rounds our little blended family perfectly.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1569" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/cute-dog--240x300.png" alt="" width="425" height="531" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/cute-dog--240x300.png 240w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/cute-dog--824x1030.png 824w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/cute-dog--768x960.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/cute-dog--564x705.png 564w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/cute-dog-.png 945w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>These three are my world.<br />
And I&#8217;ll be honest… even as a designer, blending our rhythms has taken some creativity. I naturally want everything to feel beautifully layered and thoughtfully arranged. ( I.E. I am a bit of a control freak) But that vision bumps into reality fairly quickly when you&#8217;re sharing a home with a nine-year-old, an aging dog, and let&#8217;s just say ….a man with hobbies.<br />
It means choosing more durable fabrics than I once dreamed of. It&#8217;s meant accepting that crystal goblets and candelabras are not living permanently on the dining table, it means that we have tablecloths on the antique dining table and baskets for toys and art supplies. Full disclosure, 90% of the art supplies are also mine.<br />
And that&#8217;s okay. Because this is simply a season and our ecosystem will keep evolving, just as yours has and will continue to do.</p>
<h3>Design for the Life You&#8217;re Living Now</h3>
<p>One of the most important conversations I have with clients today comes down to a simple idea: your home should support the life you&#8217;re living right now, not the one you lived five years ago, and not the idealized version you imagine someday.<br />
Do you need spaces that invite connection? Quiet corners to recharge? A home that supports working, creating, and living all at once? When we start asking these questions, design becomes genuinely intentional. Furniture, lighting, materials, and layout begin to serve a real purpose: supporting the ecosystem of the home rather than simply filling it with beautiful objects.<br />
And when that balance is right, something shifts. The home stops feeling like a collection of rooms and starts feeling like it actually belongs to you.<br />
The most successful homes I&#8217;ve designed aren&#8217;t always the most magazine worthy.<br />
They&#8217;re the ones where everything simply feels right. Where the spaces feel natural, the rooms invite you in, and the environment supports the people who live there: through different seasons, through change, through growth.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-1571" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/dog-friendly-room-824x1030.png" alt="" width="425" height="531" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/dog-friendly-room-824x1030.png 824w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/dog-friendly-room-240x300.png 240w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/dog-friendly-room-768x960.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/dog-friendly-room-564x705.png 564w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/dog-friendly-room.png 945w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px" /></p>
<p>My role as a designer is to help you understand the ecosystem you&#8217;re living in right now and to build a home that rises to meet it. Not the home you used to have. Not the home you&#8217;re saving for someday.<br />
The home that works for your life, exactly as it is today.<br />
Let&#8217;s Get Real is an ongoing series about designing homes for the way people actually live — honest, practical, and occasionally a little spicy.</p>

<h3>Love Where You Live: A Romantic Valentine’s Night at Home</h3>
<p>There’s a myth that romance lives in restaurants, hotel lobbies, and candlelit reservations you fight to get weeks in advance.</p>
<p>But some of the most romantic nights I’ve ever experienced didn’t happen out in the world — they happened at home.</p>
<p>A beautiful night in isn’t about extravagance. It’s about intention. It’s about designing an atmosphere that feels warm, indulgent, and just a little different from everyday life. Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to slow down, set the tone, and turn your home into a space that invites connection.</p>
<p>And the best part? You already have everything you need.</p>
<h3>Set the Tone: An Easy but Elevated Dinner<br />
Dinner Pic</h3>
<p>The key to a romantic dinner at home is choosing dishes that feel special without trapping you in the kitchen. You want the evening to feel relaxed and present — not rushed or complicated.</p>
<p>Start with a champagne cocktail. It instantly signals celebration and sets the mood before dinner even begins. This ombré champagne cocktail is festive, beautiful in the glass, and surprisingly simple:</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1553" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-cocktail-1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-cocktail-1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-cocktail-300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-cocktail-768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-cocktail-1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-cocktail-1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-cocktail-705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-cocktail.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>

<p>For the main course, a classic steak dinner feels luxurious but approachable. This pan-seared steak with red wine sauce is impressive without being difficult, and the video makes it even easier to follow:</p>

<p>Pair it with a crisp green salad to balance the richness:</p>

<p>And dessert has to be chocolate-dipped strawberries. They’re timeless for a reason — romantic, nostalgic, and fun to make together:</p>

<p>This menu feels formal enough for an occasion, but easy enough that you can actually enjoy the night.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1556" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-dinner-1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-dinner-1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-dinner-300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-dinner-768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-dinner-1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-dinner-1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-dinner-705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-dinner.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<h3>Turn Your Dining Space Into a Restaurant Moment</h3>
<p>A romantic dinner isn’t just about the food — it’s about how the table makes you feel when you sit down. The most beautiful tables are rarely built from specialty décor. They’re built from pieces you already own, layered thoughtfully.</p>
<p>Start with candlelight. Nothing transforms a room faster.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1552" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-candles-1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-candles-1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-candles-300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-candles-768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-candles-1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-candles-1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-candles-705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-candles.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<p>And one of my favorite cost-effective styling tricks: wrap simple taper candles with ribbon. It’s a tiny detail that makes the table feel dressed up without overspending.</p>
<p>Mixed candle heights create warmth and dimension. I love these versatile holders because they work with both tea lights and tapers, making them useful long after Valentine’s Day:</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1560" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-pink-candles-1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-pink-candles-1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-pink-candles-300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-pink-candles-768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-pink-candles-1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-pink-candles-1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-pink-candles-705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-pink-candles.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<p>Mixed taper + tea light candle holders<br />
<a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CSYRDX2Y/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_1?smid=A2MW26L1EF8TFW&amp;th=1">https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CSYRDX2Y/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_1?smid=A2MW26L1EF8TFW&amp;th=1</a></p>
<p>Cluster candles in small groups instead of lining them up perfectly. Romance lives in softness and imperfection.</p>
<p>Next, shop your cabinets. Do you have crystal glasses or special stemware that rarely gets used? Pull them out. Fancy glasses don’t need a reason — they are the reason. Use them for water, cocktails, or dessert.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1554" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-crystal-1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-crystal-1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-crystal-300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-crystal-768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-crystal-1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-crystal-1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-crystal-705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-crystal.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<p>Thoughtful details elevate the experience. A properly set table signals care and intention. If you want a refresher on placement, this guide is simple and approachable:</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1562" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-table-1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-table-1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-table-300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-table-768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-table-1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-table-1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-table-705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-table.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>

<p>Flowers don’t need to be extravagant to be impactful. Stretch one bouquet by dividing it into smaller vessels. Water glasses, jars, and bud vases become mini arrangements that feel organic and intimate.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1557" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-Flowers-1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-Flowers-1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-Flowers-300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-Flowers-768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-Flowers-1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-Flowers-1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-Flowers-705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Valentines-Flowers.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<p>The goal isn’t perfection. It’s atmosphere.</p>
<h3>The Soundtrack: Designing the Mood With Music</h3>
<p>Music is part of interior design. It changes how a space feels just as much as lighting or texture. A good playlist wraps the room in warmth and sets the emotional tone for the evening.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1558" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-music-1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-music-1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-music-300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-music-768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-music-1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-music-1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-music-705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-music.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<p>Choose something cozy and romantic without being heavy — acoustic layers, mellow jazz, songs that sit gently in the background while conversation flows.</p>
<p>Here’s a playlist that captures that energy beautifully: my new fav lo-fi beats</p>
<p>Cozy Valentine Playlist<br />
<a href="https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3un8rGp5LSOVYnk3x0h8Xs?si=jJRM4tv1QJSo7YTUElzCdw">https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3un8rGp5LSOVYnk3x0h8Xs?si=jJRM4tv1QJSo7YTUElzCdw</a></p>
<p>Press play. Dim the lights. Let the room soften.</p>
<p>The After-Dinner Moment: Connection Over Screens</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1561" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-romance-1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-romance-1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-romance-300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-romance-768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-romance-1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-romance-1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-romance-705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-romance.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<p>Instead of defaulting to a movie, consider designing a moment of connection. Valentine’s at home is about slowing down and being present — not filling silence.</p>
<p>One of my favorite rituals is a winter night walk. Bundle up, step outside, and let the cool air reset the evening. Walking side by side invites conversation in a way sitting across a table sometimes doesn’t. It’s grounding, intimate, and unexpectedly romantic.</p>
<p><em> </em></p>
<p>Other simple connection ideas:</p>
<ul>
<li>Share dessert by candlelight in the living room</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Pull out old photos or travel memories</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Write notes to your future selves</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Sit outside with blankets and chat</li>
</ul>
<p>These small rituals are where the real magic lives.</p>
<h3>A Valentine’s Note</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1550" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/galentines--1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/galentines--1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/galentines--300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/galentines--768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/galentines--1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/galentines--1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/galentines--705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/galentines-.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<p>Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples. It’s a celebration of connection in all forms — friends, family, chosen family, and even yourself.</p>
<p>Every idea here can be shared around a table with people you love. Host a friend dinner. Celebrate siblings. Invite your best friend over. Or design a beautiful night just for you.</p>
<p>Romance isn’t limited to partnerships. It’s the act of creating intention and care in your environment.</p>
<p>And that belongs to everyone.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1559" src="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-note-1030x309.png" alt="" width="1030" height="309" srcset="https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-note-1030x309.png 1030w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-note-300x90.png 300w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-note-768x230.png 768w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-note-1536x461.png 1536w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-note-1500x450.png 1500w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-note-705x212.png 705w, https://authentikhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/valentines-note.png 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px" /></p>
<p>The most romantic homes aren’t the most expensive or perfectly styled. They’re the ones that invite you to slow down, connect, and savor a moment.</p>
<p>Valentine’s Day doesn’t require grand gestures. It’s simply an opportunity to design a night that feels warm, thoughtful, and indulgent in the best way.</p>
<p>Love where you live. That’s the real romance.</p>
